The week end started off well, but a call on Saturday evening just before the play (Carousel!) began, sent me home at intermission, and by Sunday morning I was packing for Nantucket. We are showing at the Nantucket August Antique Show!
There is a lot of hard work preparing for an antique show, and most of it is done by the time the truck leaves for its destination. Now I was getting to do the fun part! Pack the wardrobe and imagine placing all of the beautiful objects in a booth to attract our clients from far away!
While packing, my thoughts were in Nantucket where I have made a June visit for the last ten years, with family. The sights and sounds of Nantucket filled my head as I carefully planned what I needed for pre show unpacking, Opening night and Show Days. I have also been on nantucket with my daughter for business, as she has done Trunk Shows there in July and August.
Nantucket can dawn bright and sunny with a deep warmth drifting to your toes or it can be dark and stormy
with a damp that seeps to the bones. I would have to be ready for it all during a week long stay. SHow time! I wondered what the crowd would be looking for this year .
There is a great satisfaction in placing a favorite piece with customers that have an appreciation for beautiful antiques.
This year the show tent will again be at Bartlett Farm, transforming that piece of rural haven for just a week to an international treasure trove. There are days when you need to rest your sun touched shoulders and freckled nose
from the relentless rays at the beach! You can visit small museums, art galleries, shops, the Antique Show (!), walk along the cobblestone streets and admire the beautiful homes from another era.
A little aside, there is a great post this morning about front doors at The Enchanted Home.
My Nantucket revelry was crushed when I got the call late last night, that I will not be needed after all. I still haven’t the heart to unpack my bags… while the sun is shining here today, I guess I will tip toe down to the lower lawn and see what is going on in the tomato beds….Nantucket will have to wait until next June!
What a mouthwatering post – lovely pictures, lovely antiques – what more could a gal want. Shame you didn’t make it – it must have been like some one took Christmas away.

OMG! Jayne — this is turning into the annus horribilus!!!! I wish I could get down there and give you a great big hug! And then sit with a nice glass of white wine (at your house it would certainly be a good one!) and admire your beautiful gardens — even if they have been under assault this year, I know they’re gorgeous. I think you need a flash vacation somewhere exotic. And whoever screwed you out of the trip (paid, I suspect) to Nantucket should be…spoken sharply to…that’s all I can say in a public forum.
